MISSION/OBJECTIVES
African Portrait Gallery, APG, pictorially narrates the story of Africans and the African continent by creating, archiving, and exhibiting art images of people that shape the continent’s development and culture. This is in order to use art as an instrument by which we can generate and influence leadership ethos amongst Africans in Africa, and in the diaspora, for the transformative interest of the continent. The four subject areas of success stories and influences sought after in APG are in Governance, Education, Business, and Entertainment.
OUR COLLECTION / VALUES
In APG, there is an emphasis on creating, archiving, and exhibiting images of Africans, and Africans in the diaspora, that are still living. This is because the managers of African Portrait Gallery believe more in celebrating and discussing the living, considering that it is only the living that can progressively affect development agenda in Africa. Our images are curated in our self-styled galleries called, “The LightRoom” and “The DarkRoom”. Images and discussions about past achievers are, however, made in what we call, “The EverGreen Room”

ART EXHIBITIONS
Our art exhibitions are curated online, and in designated locations around the world with the aid of sponsorship from well-meaning people and organizations. They are done to honor the heroes of Africa and benefactors of APG all over the world. These exhibitions are equally meant to create awareness about APG’s activities for Africa and its people whilst equally generating technical and aesthetic discussions on art and photography

THE LIGHT ROOM
The Light Room is so designated to distinguish an artistic style in photography wherein images are bathed with swathes of light in order to emphasize the aesthetic appeal that comes with that style. The images, here, consist of artistically lighted forms and photography of a cream of trail-blazing Africans whose good works illuminate the paths of African people everywhere.
THE DARK ROOM
The Dark Room is so called because it is a compartment of curated images that carry patterns of strong darks and few lights to reveal a desirable genre in art that emphasize dark over light. Called shadow art or photography, they are artistically crafted to reveal the features of our achievers or benefactors whose works and altruism impact the unity and development of Africans

THE ART GALLERY
Artworks made from a wide variety of media are curated in this compartment. The Art Gallery, as it is called, reveals artworks of achievers, or benefactors, across the globe, commissioned by willing individuals or organizations as a result of personal convictions about these achievers. Individuals in these artworks could equally be found in The Light Room and The Dark Room.
